Upstream processing is the phase of the biomanufacturing in which host cells are used to produce a product. In this course, students will receive lectures on basic lab skills and cell culture processing. This is followed by hands-on training on gowning, hood operation and performing a cell culture passage using a Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cell line.
Beginners
- Basic lab skills
- Cell culture processing
Attendees who have completed this course should be able to:
- Explain the basics of biotechnology and the key biomanufacturing steps.
- Explain the goals of upstream processing. Describe the unique characteristics of mammalian cell culture, the operating steps, and analytical testing performed.
- Demonstrate proper gowning technique.
- Perform a hood cleaning operation.
- Make calculations and perform a cell culture passage and demonstrate proper use of a cell counter.
Delivered in-person in a classroom or lab setting.
